The way it’s set up, they don’t really look at each other or the room. I think that really harms the acting choices and limited you a lot.

This feels like something I'd expect from how it should have ended. If that's what you were going for then good job if not, then I'd recommend trying to animate the character's actions instead of creating a 2d rig.

Just a small feedback, the arms are looking robotic, so you can try to add arc in it. So it will look more natural.
