I like how the mother turned around smoothly as she was approaching her daughter. However, the design of the character somehow did not make this animation work.

Your character designs are very interesting and the mother's waddling is a nice touch. The main issue is the mother's mouth and that it would have benefited from more exaggeration around the lips. The mother's hand is also in a strange position during frame 72-73. If shown longer with a more fluid movement, it wouldn't be that distracting.
