I actually liked this, very telling with the story through visuals, though I would have done a few things differently.

First when the girl opens her fingers in a wave like pattern, it's a great demonstration of animation skills, but such a pattern of finger movement doesn't fit with the emotional setting. Such a movement of pattern is more associated with playfulness, deviousness, or mischievousness. Not sadness and self doubt.

The better hand gesture (at least in my opinion) would have been a slow opening from a closed fist to an open hand, or a open hand to a closed fist (persnally I would choose the former). This usually is associated with Tension, but with the opening of the fist, it's signifying and showing the girl transitioning from internal tension to being 'more open', and somewhat 'relaxed'.

The last thing I would have recommended is to show the girl's missing eye much sooner, and have her react to it in some way to show that whatever it is she's going through, it's still very raw to her.
